AKC CGC S.T.A.R program:

The AKC S.T.A.R. program teaches all breeds of young puppies under one year of age at the start of the program the elements of the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC).  This includes sit, down, stay, walking on leash without pulling, come, leave it and grooming.  Also stresses socialization among other puppies and people by allowing them to play with each other off leash. Aggressive behavior towards other dogs and people will be dealt with.  The responsibilities of pet ownership (exercise, neighborhood manners etc. are also covered).  Health care and nutrition will also be addressed.  20 items will be worked on during the classes (pertaining to the owner AND the puppy).  Successful completion will allow the owner to receive S.T.A.R. recognition from the AKC and to continue on to future CGC certification and potential testing as a Therapy Dog.
